Travel Insurance Information

Please take the time to read and understand
Travel is a perishable product. We highly recommended that you purchase travel insurance to cover your investment. Last season, several women had to cancel within a 30-day window due to these reasons: knee injury during skiing earlier in the season, old back injury flaring up, daughter in hospital, husband in hospital, death in the family, travel to a foreign country to be at bedside of ill family member. Some of these women were able to recoup their investment because they purchased travel insurance. Others lost their money.

If you plan to ski prior to your trip, there is higher likelihood of a ski injury occurring and therefore having to miss your trip, let alone all the other reasons stated above we may not think about.

It cannot be stated enough that paying an average of 6.5 to 10% of your package cost (based on your age) is a small price to pay for peace of mind so you can recoup not only your final payment but your deposit too in the event you are unable to make this trip.

If you’re new to understanding how travel insurance works, Women Who Ski, LLC founder and president, Genevieve Schmitt recommends Myra Altschuler, a travel insurance agent with Travel Protectors who has worked with ski groups for many years. She is offering her services to Women Who Ski members to help answer questions and find the best policy for you. Call her office first at 703-443-9055. If you can’t reach her, she’s OK with you calling her cell phone: 571-243-5813. She’s on Eastern Time. Know that if you have a pre-existing medical condition, you must purchase a policy within 14 days of paying your trip deposit.

“The supportiveness of the environment makes it easy to overcome the awkwardness of meeting new people.”

Leslie S., San Diego, Calif.

“It’s great to be with likeminded people. We all not only love to ski, but we do other things. We mountain bike, we hike. It’s really good networking. ”

FAQs

  • Women Who Ski, LLC offers trips under the “official” banner so as not to be confused with the unofficial trips members of our Women Who Ski Facebook group organize on their own. We encourage members of our Facebook group to gather any way they wish to ski and ride together. Official trips are organized by WWS Founder and President Genevieve Schmitt and involve securing a discount on lodging and amenities and offering that as a package deal. Visit our Ski Trips page here.

  • Women Who Ski trips are open to all women 18 years or older. We ask that you either join our Facebook group by clicking here, or if you are not on Facebook join our mailing list on this website by clicking here so we can stay in touch with you. Additionally, in order to attend one of our official trips each season, you will need to be a paying member of Women Who Ski at the Black Diamond level.

  • Yes, all of our Official Women Who Ski trips allow only women.

  • We have found that there are women who enjoy skiing in the company of other women only. Our goal is to meet that need so women can enjoy the slopes in the way they desire and hopefully find a ski buddy for life.

  • Absolutely! We know snowboarders enjoy the slopes alongside their skiing buddies.

  • Yes, we welcome all levels of skiers, from beginner to expert, but we ask that at a minimum you have been on skis or a snowboard before the trip and can at least get down a green run on your own.

  • The majority of the women who attend our trips can ski blue runs and groomed black runs, so intermediate / advanced level. The second largest group of women who attend our trips are solid blue level intermediate skiers. From there we get a handful of double black expert skiers, and a few green level beginner skiers. We welcome all levels and accommodate all levels as best we can. Our trips are not so much about how good a skier you are, rather that women are skiing (and riding) together to meet future ski buddies.

  • We cannot guarantee there will be other green level beginners on each trip, that’s why we ask that if you are interested in joining one of our trips and desire to ski with other women, to reach out to Women Who Ski founder, Genevieve Schmitt at the Contact link here, or by email at gen@womenwhosk.org, who can let you know if there are other beginners interested in this trip. Usually there are. The beauty of having two or more beginners is that you can share a group lesson if you so desire, and practice together. That said, we foster an environment of helping one another so it’s not uncommon for intermediate and advanced skiers, after they’ve skied their favorite runs, to offer to ski with and “coach” a beginner level skier to encourage them.

  • During our first night’s welcome reception, everyone wears a name tag with her skier level indicated. This is to help us identify others who ski at similar levels. The first day we usually ski together in two or three larger groups regardless of level to warm up on a blue run. From there, ladies see who skis similarly and then groups naturally and organically break away. It always works out so lovely. Click here to read our Group Ski Etiquette guidelines.

  • We foster a nurturing, supportive environment. While we know there are ladies who like to rip, and we encourage expert women to find similar skiers on the trip to do that with, our goal with are gatherings is for all skiers and snowboarders, no matter their skill level, to feel supported and encouraged by everyone, in an effort to attract more women to the slopes. We were all beginners one day.

  • We keep the group size to around 20 to 25 guests, give or take a few. We’ve run trips with as many as 35 women and we find the intimacy of the group is lost. With a smaller number, it allows for everyone to get to know each other, and makes it manageable for scheduling dinners if the women wish to meet as a group one or two evenings during the trip.

  • We encourage women who have never been on a group ski trip before to step out of their comfort zone and join us. The majority of the women who join our trips come by themselves. The friendly and warm atmosphere we create makes it easy for solo travelers to find a buddy or two to hang with during the trip. If you want a double queen room, we can pair you with a roommate, or you’re welcome to connect with other ladies interested in the trip by joining the roommate finder chat group for the trip you’re interested in.

  • A chat group on WhatsApp is created specifically for the trip where guests can join to converse, share, and post photos. We’ve found our trip chat groups are the heartbeat of keeping everyone connected so no one feels left out.

  • Our guests come from all over the U.S. Everyone, regardless of location, is welcome. We do find a greater concentration of women coming in from the New England area and east coast mainly because our trips are out west and many east coast skiers desire to ski out west at some point. Our group trips provide a great way to do that in a guided, supported way.

  • We call our trip hosts “Women Who Ski Ambassadors” because we know that the tone or environment of a trip is set by the leader(s) hosting. Ambassadors are people who further the mission of an organization. In keeping with ours, Ambassadors lead with a servant’s heart, putting the needs of guests first, and anticipating the needs of each guest, something you’d expect from a professionally run event. You can read more about what to expect from a WWS Ambassador here on our website.

  • Yes. Up until now, Women Who Ski founder Genevieve Schmitt has been the lead ambassador on our trips, along with a friend who assisted her in developing our trips model. However, in order to expand the number of trips we offer each year, we will need ambassadors to lead and facilitate our trips. If you are interested, read the qualifications on our Ambassadors page here. As of now, to qualify for a Trip Ambassador position, you must have attended an Official Women Who Ski trip where you met and interacted with Genevieve. Reach out to her if you are interested.
